The A. About The A. Club Store. Top review. Ahead of its time ironically. The real failure of the film, it's the lack of star power, of a very handsome lead, Jamie Kennedy is fine but not enough for people to socially accept him as a lead, it has the wit that "21 Jump Street" has, minus Channing Tatum, there are some awkwardly fun scenes that never push it far enough to become gross, the movie knows the limits of what it's funny and what is gross, which is also another amazing thing the script had.
Other than that it doesn't takes itself too seriously, it seems like a movie in which the crew and actors could have fun, I would of really though this movie was done in the 90's which is another good point for the D. All in all, it is one of the few solid comedies around the last decade, unfortunately the lack of star power, the out of date visuals, and the script being too smart for it's own good, it might be a movie to watch in 10 years, it came out too soon.
FAQ 1. Whats that one song? Details Edit. Release date April 27, United States. United States Canada. Kicking It Old School. Tsawwassen, Delta, British Columbia, Canada. Box office Edit. Technical specs Edit. While this wasn't as funny as either of those movies it still had me laughing on many occasions. I particularly liked the individual jokes involving the roach, the date-preparation and the crude vomit scene.
I've seen too many "comedy" movies that try to take themselves seriously and they get annoying. People like me who were teens in the 80s will probably like this more than the pre-teen to mids audience of today. We lived most of the references, so we'll get a few more of the jokes. You really have to be a fan of silly and braindead type of comedies to enjoy this. I won't say that it's worth buying on DVD or anything, but if you want some simple laughs without worrying about any overly obscene language or scenes you might enjoy this.
It won't challenge you mentally or have you raving about it to your friends, but you might enjoy turning your brain off for awhile for a few laughs.
If your kids don't get embarrassed by you laughing about something they don't get, then take them along. It's actually fun explaining the references to them. D-Sligar 10 September I wasn't expecting too much with this movie, but even at the beginning with the title scroll brought back some memories of being a kid in the 80's. I'm not sure which film the people who gave this film a saw, but I was laughing throughout Sure, it had a bit of guy humor in it, but come on, Jamie Kennedy's in it OK, back to the movie Just watching Jamie foolin around at the beginning was hilarious.
Bottom Line: If you grew up in the 80's, you'd be doing yourself an injustice by not seeing this movie; it's worth it for all the off-the-wall references you'll get and well worth the chuckle. If you liked Jamie's off-beat comedy "Malibu's Most Wanted," then you'll like this one even more.
Finally, if you like to see crazy and many silly or just plain stupid moves on the dance floor, check it out. I'm gonna see it again a few times! Peace out, yo! Its the 80's. This film pays homage to all the good and not so good memories of the 80's, i actually sat in my seat squirming remembering it all. Its was a strange thing because i had forgotten about the craze for Garbage Pail Kids cards and Plastic toy Smurfs but i never and i will repeat never wore a white string vest.
The film itself had myself laughing with hysteria at all these memories that i had long forgotten, there were a few parts over the top and lost the humour it was supposed to represent. The cast just played along with the script as best they could as it has little in substance it rely's totally on the humour. The Dance off finale has some funny moments but don't let me spoil it for you. Its certainly not the best comedy around but watch it and enjoy yourself for 90 minutes.
I grew up in the '80s and thought it might be a fun "flashback" movie, but Jamie Kennedy is so, so bad. To quote Michael Rosenbaum's character, "He ruins everything!
What might have been a fun fish out of water-type movie loaded with '80s head-nods to the silliness of that decade is, instead, an absolute turd-fest. Kennedy sucks all the entertainment out of this movie with his continuously derp-faced performance. I cannot adequately express how much he sucks and single-handedly ruins this movie. I just saw this movie, and I regret it badly.
I hoped for a good nice comedy, that would make me laugh, and give me a nice feeling after watching it. With this movie I didn't get that. MOST of the jokes was to lame for my taste, and not very fun. As the movie progressed my final grade became lower and lower, almost ended up at 1, which is the lowest grade.
The only good thing about the movie was the Knight Rider scene, only because of that, and some SMALL laughs it get's 2 stars instead of 1. Also I wanna point out that the acting in this movie is not very good.
Some scenes I find vulgar, and very disturbing. Not fun at all, you kinda wait now here comes the joke, and then there just comes nothing. If you think about watching this movie, my advice to you is don't watch it.
Pigface1 3 May They had a great premise to build on and they blew it. Instead, they put in a bunch of Busch league dancers who were flat out annoying, and jokes written with zero creativity. It reminds me of another turd that came out recently, Drillbit Taylor.. At minimum it should have been funny and it should have had some ridiculously good breakers and it failed miserably on both counts. I wonder why he isn't in that much. And immediately answered my own question.
